Happy July folks! I was a little late getting this background together, but hopefully some of you are still sitting there with the June background and haven’t run off to some other site for some fly new background that you’ve fallen in love with. This month’s background, based on a painting by Vincent Van Gogh, is bright and hot like the month of July (in some places).
Download the wallpaper for your desktop in various sizes here: 2560×1600, 1920×1200, 1680×1050, 1440×900, 1280×800.
Here’s what the original painting looks like:
I made a pastel drawing from the painting:
I uploaded the drawing to Photoshop and cleaned it up a little. Then I began trying to squeeze in the word “July”. It seemed to sort of fit in the sky by the sun, but it wasn’t very legible and the whole thing felt a little bit busy.
I pasted in a bit of paper I’d scanned earlier, planning to place the type on top, and as I went to up the exposure on the scrap of paper I accidentally applied it to the whole image. The colors blew out to white and bright blue, and I knew it was suddenly a much better background.
A little more messing about with the exposure levels, and then finding the right font for “July” (Letter Gothic Std), and I was done. I’m pleased to have something light and simple this month, because I know you’ve probably got plenty of junk on your desktop as it is.
I hope you enjoy the wallpaper and the month of July!
